Naga society in turmoil and need revamp – Dr. Liezietsu

Kohima, Oct. 15 (EMN): Claiming that Naga society is in great turmoil, president of Ura Academy, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, has asserted on the need to revamp the society for progress and development.

Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of Tenyidie department under the Nagaland University on Saturday held at Ura Academy Hall in Kohima, Liezietsu, who is also the president of NPF,  felt that the Naga society should not be misled by propagandas and narrow thinking mindsets. On the contrary, he stated that the people should have broad mind to forgive and respect one another.

Dr. Liezietsu also expounded on the role of the university to teach the students and apply wisdom in the fear of God to rebuild the ‘divided Naga society.’

Dr. Liezietsu recalled the initial days when Tenyidie subject was first introduced at Kohima College and subsequently at Nagaland University postgraduate programme in 1997. He has credited Prof. D Kuolie, retired head of Tenyidie department, for his contributions in promoting the language.

Asserting that the introduction of Tenyidie language as a subject was most remarkable in history, Dr. Liezietsu told the students that the elders have high hope and expectation on the youngsters. He advised them not only to complete their studies but do more research and document the good traditional practices and culture of the Nagas.

He further advised the gathering to associate themselves with various groups and churches to help in writings and improvise the documentations and be leaders in inspiring others to speak Tenyidie.

Dr. Liezietsu also released a souvenir to commemorate the celebration.

Earlier, greetings was delivered by Professor Buno Zetsuvi, administrative in-charge of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, as well as the Dean of School of Education and Humanities. She informed that Tenyidie department has produced more than 300 postgraduates, 329 dissertations, 7 Ph.D scholars, who are serving in different schools and colleges.

Prof. Zetsuvi informed that the department offers 2 years PG course, Ph.D programme, 6 months certificate course in Tenyidie, one year PG Diploma course in Tenyidie and 1 month crash course in spoken Tenyidie.

Professor D Kuolie, retired HoD of Linguistics, presented the history and significance on the formation of Tenyidie department at Nagaland University.

Dr. Petekhrienuo Sorhie, head of Tenyidie department, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Metuo Liezietsu, assistant professor of Tenyidie, chaired the programme.
