Dimapur, Sep. 13 (EMN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has condemned the kidnapping of a three-year-old boy on September 10 by unknown miscreants.

While lauding the Dimapur police for its prompt action and rescuing the boy on Sunday, the NCD asked ‘the law enforcing agencies to take appropriate action on the kidnappers as per the law of the land’.

In a press release, the organisation stated that the citizens of Dimapur had been subjected to a number of criminal and anti-social activities like kidnapping, rape, abduction, looting, extortion, intimidation and rampant taxation.

It also backed the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in its call for total closure of shops and business establishments in Dimapur on September 16 to protest rampant illegal taxation by various groups.

“This menace of illegal taxation prevailing in the state is creating fear and resentment amongst the business community and the public. Thus, violating the fundamental rights of the people to live with dignity, to live without fear, freedom to profess any profession and the right to equality and equal protection of law guaranteed by the constitution,” it stated.

Maintaining that the business community and consumers had to bear the brunt of illegal taxation, the NCD urged the general public to speak up for change.

The DCCI had announced total shutdown of all shops and business establishments in the commercial hub on September 16 to protest the government’s inaction on multiple illegal taxation imposed by various groups and government agencies.

It stated that transportation of goods into the city will also be restricted during the total shutdown to protest various taxes and fees collected by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) at check gates collected on Goods and Services Tax (GST) items.
