Kohima, Jan. 7 (EMN): The revived Naga Club observed its foundation day on Monday in Kohima with wide reference to the history of the organisation and its role in the Naga people’s political journey. The publicity cell of the Naga Club issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about the programme.
The president of the group, Kruorovi Peseyie, was quoted as having said that the most important and “historic deed” of the club was the submission of “the first Naga political memorandum” to the British government, on January 10 1929.

Peseyie claimed that some writers of the Northeast consider the memorandum of 1929 as “one of the rarest memorandums,” according to the organisation. He was said to have added that even the “more civilised and neighbouring people couldn’t imagine then further.”
The Naga people were “perhaps less civilised than others in those days,” he said but “because of their innocence and humbleness God helped them in a wonderful manner.” Pointing to the stance of the Naga Club, Peseyie said that the group will “stand for truthfulness and honesty” by making it ‘function with compassion and benevolence and always stand for what is right and good.’ According to the press release, Peseyie warned that the “true histories and records of Naga Club should never be supplanted with individual statement of own imagination without basing on reliable evidences.”

According to the press release: ‘Peseyie said, Mr. Hisale Angami Rheichalie Pienyü became the first chairman of Naga Club, 1918 to 1942; and Mr. Krusiehu Belho became the second president from 1942 to 1964. Those Naga leaders did never (sic) join Naga Labour Corps who went to France in 1917 stated Peseyie. Stressing on the formation of the club, he said Naga Club was founded by some clerks and interpreters who were serving in the office of the deputy commissioner (of) Naga Hills, Kohima, with some ex-soldiers, contractors and village elders.’
