Municipal Affairs conducts painting, essay competitions in urban areas

Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-urban) establishment of the Municipal Affairs department organised painting and essay competitions on November 2 and the 3rd in 14 towns as part of ongoing Information Education and Communication activities.
The Municipal Affairs department issued a press release to the media on Monday informing about the event.

The ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had launched the “Angikaar” campaign on August 29 2019, the press release stated. According to the press release, the “Angikaar” is a campaign for ‘change management.’

The participants in the painting competition comprised primary school students while those in the essay competition comprised high school-to-higher secondary students, the organisers stated.

“The themes for both competition categories were based on the concepts of the eight different verticals under the Angikaar campaign, concepts that range from Environment Protection to Water and Energy conservation and promotion of cohesive living in urban and rural societies,” the press release stated.

Around 1,000 students are said to have participated in the painting and essay competitions across Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Wokha, Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Jalukie, Phek, Peren, Medziphema, Shamator, Longleng and Zunheboto.

“Angikaar” translates to “acceptance” and it is a campaign that has been initiated for social behavioural change, the organisers stated.

It focuses on issues such as water and energy conservation, waste management, health, tree plantation, sanitation and hygiene for beneficiaries of completed houses under PMAY, through community mobilisation and Information Education and Communication activities, the updates added.
