Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): Mon District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA), in collaboration with District Aids Protection Control Unit, Mon Users’ Network, Gospel Outreach Ministry and District Jail Police, observed the International Day Against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at District Jail, Mon, on June 26.
Topha, panel lawyer, chaired the programme, while Yangwei, jail chaplain, said the invocation. Thungdemo Kikon, assistant jailor, delivered the welcome address.
Longyim, District Programme Officer, exhorted the inmates to refrain from using drugs, while Sashi, MUN president, shared his living testimony. Woknyei, GOM president, also shared his living testimony with the inmates about how his strong determination made him a better person today. Chahwang, local artiste, present a song.
N Mannon, panel lawyer, spoke on the theme “Health for justice, Justice for health,” while Inalo Zhimomi, district and session judge-cum-chairman of MDLSA, gave a closing remarks.
Altogether, 165 persons attended the programme.
93 Bn BSF:
Personnel of 93 Battalion Border Security Force (BSF), Chedema in Kohima district commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organising seminar on drug abuse conducted by its commandant Surinder Singh.
Surinder Singh spoke on bad effect of drugs abuse among young generation and cautioned the jawans to be aware of such substances.
The jawans also undertook a rally from Chedema to Seikhazou in Kohima village. On the occasion, BSF also distributed pamphlets and displayed banners and placards on the ills of drugs abuse.
NCC Girls:
NCC cadets of 1 Nagaland Girls Battalion under aegis of NCC Gp HQ Kohima commemorated the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organising awareness programmes and lectures. A total of 1125 cadets mostly from senior wing with their associated NCC officers participated in the programmes at various places.
In Kohima, the cadets attended a function organised by Kripa Foundation which was graced by the State Governor, PB Acharya. In Peren district, programmes were also organised at Peren Government College, Baptist Higher Secondary School, All Saints Higher Secondary School and Government Higher Secondary School, St. Xavier College, Jalukie.
In Dimapur, programmes were organised at Don Bosco SChool and Christian Higher Secondary School.
A defence release stated that the cadets have pledged to say no to drugs, narcotic substances and lend a helping hand to the hapless drug addicts.
SD Jain College: Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of SD Jain Girls’ College observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 at its college auditorium.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and resource person, Jatila Jamir, highlighted on the relevance of the day with informative lecture. The Club also conducted an essay writing and painting competition to mark the occasion.
