Mon to conducts awarness programmes on Poshan Abhiyan

Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): As part of Poshan Abhiyaan programme, Mon block convergence action plan committee conducted an awareness programme at Jahjon Ward in Mon town on July 16.
L Amei Konyak, supervisor of Social Welfare Department, Mon, spoke on the topic ‘Over all nutrition.’ The programme was attended by community members especially women and adolescent girls.
Various functions and events on Poshan Abhiyaan have been planned by Mon block convergence action plan committee under the chairmanship of Chumlamo Humtsoe, SDO (C), Mon.

According to the proposed action plan, an awareness programme would be held on July 16 at Jahjon ward followed with a programme for adolescent girls on the topic ‘Good livelihood’ at CMO conference hall on July 23; essay writing competition on ‘Holistic nutrition’ for school children on July 30; village health sanitation and nutrition day for pregnant and nursing mothers in all Anganwadi centres on August 7; awareness programme for pregnant, nursing mothers and Self Help Groups at Mon local ground on August 15; and street play and other events at Mon village on August 25.

A DIPR report stated that the district administration, stakeholders, government departments and various NGOs would take part as facilitators and service providers during the programmes.

The main objectives of Poshan Abhiyaan programmes are to prevent and reduce under-nutrition and stunting in children; reduce the prevalence of anemia among young children, women and adolescent girls; reduce low birth rate.

The targeted beneficiaries are children in the age group of 0-6 years; pregnant women and lactating mothers; and adolescent girls.
