Mon pulls the brakes on seat belts, reckless driving

Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): In the interest of public service and safety, the district administration of Mon has issued a notice ordering a number of traffic regulations concerning seat belts, helmets and reckless driving.

The regulations are in line with the directives of the Supreme Court’s committee on road safety, updates stated.

The district’s deputy commissioner Thavaseelan K has ordered that a penalty of suspension of driving license for three months for violation of laws relating to helmets and seat belts, use of mobile phones while driving, and reckless driving will be strictly enforced and implemented within the jurisdiction of Mon.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave on Wednesday updates about the notice.

Further, the public are requested to strictly adhere to the use norms of parking lots and traffic regulations within Mon town, which will be enforced shortly after taking into consideration claims and objections, the IPR stated.

The deputy commissioner also directed enforcing officers and staff to conduct periodic checking to minimize inconveniences to passengers from the ‘constant breakdown of public service vehicles’ like buses and taxis plying between districts, the IPR stated.

Also, the restriction on the use of three wheelers in the hill sector due to road safety concerns and safety of public life as given in a notice dated the 9th of July 2019 is already in force, the IPR stated.
