Mon killing: Eastern Nagaland CSOs adopt several resolutions

Dimapur, Dec. 14 (EMN): The eastern Nagaland civil society organisations (CSOs) have adopted several resolutions, including non co-operation to the Indian security forces and repealing of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) following the recent killing of innocent civilians in Mon district.

The resolutions were unanimous adopted at a joint consultative meeting of CSOs from eastern Nagaland called by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) on Tuesday, informed an update from ENPO.

The public of eastern Nagaland has resolved to extend non-co-operation to the Indian security forces until the following demands are fulfilled and justice is delivered to the victims’ families and the Nagas:

• The Indian security personnel involved in the gruesome killings of 14 innocent civilians on December 4 and the 5th in Mon district should be booked under relevant law of the country and be brought under civil court for trial.

• The Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in the Parliament, where he stated the security personnel fired in self defence, should be withdrawn.

• The government of India should revoke the AFSPA from the entire north-eastern states.

It added that non co-operation will be in the form of abstaining from any national celebrations, or such activities; non-participation in army civic programmes; non-attendance in any of their official invitations; and no recruitment drive within eastern Nagaland.

The house resolved to hold public rally in all the tribal headquarters on December 16 to protest the brutal murder of innocent public and injuring several others as well as demand for justice.

It also resolved to declare December 4 and the 5th as “Black Day” in the entire ENPO jurisdiction and write to the state government to immediately set up the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC).
