DIMAPUR — Mon and Tuensang districts along with other 91 stations got a 100W FM transmitter, which was virtually inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi from New Delhi on Friday.

In Mon, Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak, attended the inaugural function as the guest of honour. She stated that Mon district was privileged coming to a net of information.

On behalf of Mon district, she thanked the All India Radio (AIR) for introducing the FM transmitter. She added that it was the vision of the Prime Minister that no one should be left out even in such a far-flung area like Mon, a DIPR report stated.

“In this digital world, information is a very powerful weapon that one cannot do anything without. Radio is one of the cheapest, most affordable means of communication where one can get accurate news,” Konyak said.

Stating that the facility is a platform from where one can contribute and also learn, she urged the citizens of Mon to lend their cooperation so that a proper station could be set to cover the whole district in the future.

Delivering the welcome address, KK Rengma, DDG (E)/ Cluster Head, acknowledged the retired staff of AIR Mon who had lent their time. He also requested the people of Mon to contribute through the medium.

Lemjan Phom, programme executive at AIR Kohima, extended thanks to the Prime Minister for inaugurating 100W FM transmitters in Mon. She also expressed gratitude to Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak, for attending the occasion as the guest of honour. She further acknowledged the cooperation of the administration, police, civil societies and the citizens for Mon.

David Konyak presented a song followed with distribution of radio sets to the dignitaries.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner of Tuensang, Nokchasashi, while speaking at the inaugural function, stated that opening the FM station in Tuensang would greatly benefit the people of the area as they rely on the radio for information and news. He further stated that the FM station would transmit information about locally relevant programmes, education, health, and social issues to the masses, which could bring a significant change in the life of the people.

The welcome address and vote of thanks were given by Rachel Shimray Hop and Temsula PEX respectively.
