Mokokchung DC declares Longkhum village, Alichen town resolutions ‘null and void’

Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh has declared the resolutions issued by Longkhum Chungli Mongsen Youth, Alichen Youth and Alichen Council “null and void” as it goes against the spirit of free and fair election, and violates the statutory rights of individuals of Longkhum village and Alichen ad-hoc town.

The resolution issued by the Longkhum Chungli Mongsen Youth resolved to support Talitsuba Imchen, an intending candidate from Longkhum Village, and directed the citizens not to go against the said resolution, or face severe punishment. Another  resolution issued by the Alichen Youth resolved to support Talitsuba Imchen in the upcoming election; and the resolution adopted by the Alichen Council resolved to support the candidature of Imchen in the upcoming elections and warned the citizens to not  go against the resolution adopted by the Council.

In a notification issued on February 15, the DC directed the Chairman of Longkhum Village Council and

Chairman Vice-Chairman Alichen Town Council/Alichen Urban Station Committee to appear in the court of the District Magistrate, Mokokchung on or before Feb. 17 with written submission as why action should not be taken against them as per the relevant sections of CRPC and other election-related laws for willful disobedience of the notifications and instructions of the Election Commission of India.
