Menuosetuo wins 2nd Kewhimia U-25 Open Wrestling Championship
Kohima, October 24: Teenager Menuosetuo Yiese of D. Khel, Kohima village on Saturday emerged as the champion of the 2nd Kewhimia Open Wrestling Championship for under-25 years.
17-year-old Menuosetuo, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 92 kgs, beat his opponent Dziesengulie Yhome in the final at D.Khel ground, Kohima village.
Menuosetuo walked away with cash Rs.35, 000 along with a citation and trophy, runner- up Dziesengulie received Rs.20, 000, and while Kikrusetuo Kerestii and Seyiekhrietuo Yiese bagged the third and fourth places respectively and received Rs.15, 000 and Rs.10, 000 each. Kevisalie Kire was given the best tactic award and received Rs.5000; according to a press release issued on Monday by the organisers. The chief guest, Medoselhou Keretsii, Kohima Village Council (KVC) chairman in his speech urged the players to be content with what they have been blessed with and not depend on artificial substances like “dope and performance enhancement drugs” which will not only spoil the player’s career but also damage their personality.
Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) Medozhatuo Rutsa graced the closing function as the guest of honour. In his address he urged the players to be sincere and dedicated in their practice and maintained that in this competitive world, be it business, sports or studies, only few who gave their all and persist for perfection excel.
It may be mentioned that the championship was initiated and funded by Khriehu Liezietsu ,parliamentary secretary for YRS, SL and MTF and Chairman DPDB Kohima and was supported by KVYO and organised by Kewhimia Entertainment Team (K.E.T).
Meanwhile, the KET announced that the players who reached pre-quarter-finals will be sponsored to play in the 3E Wrestling Mania tournament scheduled from October 27 to 29.
