‘Mediocre teacher tells,…Great teacher inspires’

ALLUDING to William Arthur Ward’s line: ‘The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates and the great teacher inspires’, chief guest Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dimapur Elizabeth Ngully on the occasion at Dimapur said that a teacher must love their career in order to pass on their teachings to students as it is they who tap the minds of young children.
She told the students, ‘Today is an appropriate time to show love and appreciation to teachers who were once students like you’.
Highlighting on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video conference with students on the occasion, she said, PM’s speech showed the significance of the day. Citing William Butler Yeats,’ “education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,” she called upon the teachers to be always ahead and be in tune with the technology world as one is never too old to learn, and education continues throughout our lives as teaching is a duty which never retires.
Sub Division Education Officer (SDEO) Dimapur Atomi Swu speaking on the occasion maintained that a teacher should be the best mind of the country as they are an inspiration to many and keeping aside their uphill struggle, he acknowledged that today is the day to recognize them for their hard work. Speaking on behalf of awardees, Vinoli, teacher of GHSS Niuland acknowledged that in today’s society teaching has become a last choice and resource so she called upon the teachers to make this profession a respectable one.
Dimapur district celebrated teacher’s day today at Christian Higher Secondary school covenant hall. Earlier, the opening song was presented by St.Mary Montessori Higher Secondary School, Atula of Lima Aier Higher Secondary School invoked God’s blessing. The vote of thanks was rendered by Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Dimapur R.Amongla Jamir and closing song by Little Star Hr.Sec.School. the day was marked with entertainment by St.Paul Hr.Sec.School, Christian Hr.Sec.School and Government High School Thahekhu. On the occasion, 28 teachers were awarded the District Teachers Award 2014 for their contribution towards education.
NPF Minority Cell: Purana Bazar Dayanand Vidyaniketan, Dimapur celebrated Teachers’ day with gaiety at its school campus. NPF Minority cell president Bishnu Bhattacharjee graced the programme as chief guest and Arvind khandelwal as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest encouraged teachers for upholding the sanctity of the teaching profession and also urged upon the teachers to be role models. Calling the teachers as the “architects of humanity”, he appreciated the sacrifices and tireless efforts of teachers while moulding the children to cultivate moral values and strengthen character formation, preserving own tradition and culture.
The others who attended the programme are Santosh Kumar Shastri, of Arya Samaj, Acharya Amit Kumar, Shahji Pm from business community and community leaders from Purana Bazar area. Felicitation to teachers and entertainments like special numbers, dances, quiz competition etc., marked the celebrations.
