Measles outbreak reported in Zunheboto

Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): Suspected outbreak of measles was reported from Aghunato block in Zunheboto district. According to the data provided by DPO (RCH and UIP), Zunheboto, Dr. Alemwabang Aier, a total of 50 cases was identified from areas of Aghunato town, Shevishe and Lukikhe as on May 28.
In this respect, relevant blood, urine samples and throat swap were collected and sent for laboratory testing. Measles is a highly infectious and deadly disease among children, which is easily preventable by vaccination.
A DIPR report stated that the immunisation coverage remained below 50% in the district. It stated that the health department with the help of district administration has been organising an immunisation drive under special Intensive Mission Indradhanush and also making efforts to improve routine immunisation coverage for pregnant mothers and children below 5 years of age.
The district administration, through press release, has appealed to all the concerned citizens to give full support and ensure that no child is left behind from life-saving vaccines.
