MDFA: Telongjem FC, Kumlong SA win on Thursday

Mokokchung, Oct. 3 (EMN): Telongjem FC beat Sungkomen FC 3-0 and Kumlong SA beat Mongsenbai Youngsters 1-0 in the league round of the ongoing MDFA Trophy at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Thursday.
Midfielder Nyithong Magn fired an early goal for Telongjem FC in the 7th minutes before striker Purakum added two more goals in the 12th and 26th minutes to seal the game against Sungkomen FC in the first match.

Sungkomen FC was outclassed, but stood firm with solid defending and creating some chances to score in the second half. Imtiyanger of Sungkomen FC was awarded a yellow card in the 11th minute.

In the second match of the day, Kumlong SA’s midfielder Lulenyuba scored in the 9th minute to give his team the win against the formidable Mongsenbai Youngsters 1-0.

Youngsters were reduced to 10 men after 43 minutes of play when Bendangmoa was shown a red card. He was given a yellow card in 41st minute before receiving another one two minutes later, becoming the first player to be sent off in the MDFA Trophy 2019.

Kumlong failed to increase the score line after Bendangmoa was sent off from the field.
Meanwhile, MDFA in a statement announced that the association strongly support the plastic-free campaign and appealed to the spectators and participating teams not to bring non-reusable plastic drinking water bottles inside Imkongmeren Sports Complex. The association would provide drinking water for the teams during the matches, it said.
