Maternity benefit programme launched in Jalukie, Wokha

Dimapur, Dec. 2 (EMN): Peren district officially launched Matru Vandhana Saptah, a maternity benefit programme, on the theme “Towards building a healthy nation- Surakshit Janani, Viksit Dharini” on December 2 at ADC office, Jalukie Town.

The launching programme was organised by Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandhan Yojana (PMMVY) in collaboration with the department of Social Welfare, Peren district, informed an update from DIPR.

PMMVY district coordinator Keyizieteing Ndang said the conditional maternity benefit programme was implemented using the platform of the Anganwadi centres and it came into effect in Nagaland in 2017. He added that the objectives of the scheme were to provide partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first living child and also to encourage pregnant women and lactating mothers (PW&LM) to seek an improved health and nutrition behaviour.

Ndang stated that all pregnant women and lactating mothers for their first live birth, excluding those in regular employment with the central or state government or public sectors undertakings, are eligible to apply under PMMVY schemes in the nearest Anganwadi centres. Also highlighting the current status of the programme, he said a total of 569 beneficiaries have been enrolled so far from Peren district.

While launching the programme, ADC Jalukie town, Dr. Tinujongshi Chang, requested the department of Social Welfare and Medical department to work hand in hand for the successf of the scheme. Assuring full support from the district administration, he urged urged the line departments to spread awareness about the PMMVY programme at the grassroots level.

1400 beneficiaries in Wokha district

The deputy commissioner of Wokha, Orenthung Lotha formally launched the Matru Vandana Saptha at DC’s conference hall with the theme ‘Towards Building a Healthy Nation-Surakshit Janani, Viksit Dharini” on December 2.

The DC said at the launch function that this has been initiated under the department of Social Welfare by the GoI with an aim to provide cash incentive to first time mother/pregnant mother to encourage them in seeking health care behaviour that will lead to adequate care of their health and the child’s health as well, informed an update from DIPR.

DPA, PMMVY Wokha, Emilo Ovung also informed that PMMVY is a maternity benefit scheme where cash incentives are given to first time mother/pregnant mother in three instalments. She revealed that Wokha district has registered a total of 1400 beneficiaries under the scheme till November 30.

The deputy commissioner distributed baby kits under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao at the event.
