DIMAPUR, MARCH 8

Overseas Naga Association has expressed shock to March 5 incident and said that people taking law into their hands make things worse. Dr. VisierSanyü, president (in Australia) and Dr. Paul Pimomo, secretary general (USA), Overseas Naga Association in a press note said they learned from international media about the events of March 5 in Dimapur and the incident leading up to it.
“Our hearts are heavy with shock. We strongly condemn all forms of abuse and violence against women because they dehumanize the victim as well as the perpetrator –whoever they may be. And for people to take the law into their own hands and execute the accused in public only makes things worse by adding one crime on another. It brings justice to nobody and obstructs the rule of law,” the press note stated.
“As a global association of Nagas, we know that Naga people have a strong sense of justice going back to village governments, where procedure for righting wrongs was strictly followed,” it added.
“We are convinced there is no better, more effective recourse available to any people in the modern world, including the long-beleaguered Nagas, than due process under the law. Long live justice and the rule of law,” the ONA also said.
