Manipur Police on Tuesday celebrated its 130th Raising Day of Manipur Police at the parade ground of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles in presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Director General of Police and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren Singh said that law and order of the state had considerably improved with efficient functioning of the Police department. Mentioning the role of police in successful implementation of War against Drugs campaign of the state government, he maintained that the Narcotics and Affairs of Border of Manipur Police had been functioning with much effort to completely root out the drug menace in the state.

Stressing the need to enforce strict traffic rules as the state had witnessed many road accidents due to negligent driving, he instructed the concerned authorities to start taking up action against traffic rule violators.

He informed that Manipur Police Memorial Park being constructed at 1st Manipur Rifles Complex in Imphal to honour the supreme sacrifices of Manipur Police is nearing completion and the same would be inaugurated soon by the Prime Minister or Home Minister on their likely visit to the state. The chief minister appreciated the contribution made by Manipur Police personnel during the government’s fight against Covid-19 and any other crucial time.

In his speech, DGP Manipur, LM Khaute highlighted the achievements of the Manipur Police department in the past one year. He said 263 extremists had been arrested,13 had been neutralised while arms and ammunition consisting of 149 weapons, 2,783 assaulted ammunition, 75 hand grenades, 398 detonators, 3 kg explosive substances were recovered.

Apart from this, large amount of contraband drugs including 36 kg of heroine, 841 kg of ganja, 479 kg of opium, 272 kg of brown sugar, around 9 lakh WY tablets, 18,710 SP capsules and more than 12,000 bottles of cough syrup were also seized.

Later wishing officers and personnel of Manipur Police on the occasion in a Facebook post, Biren wrote, “Under our citizen-centric governance, all our police personnel have played a key role in strengthening the ties between the public and Manipur Police.” “Many of our police personnel have bagged prestigious awards and medals at State and National level. It may also be remembered that Nongpok Sekmai Police Station was ranked first in India’s Top Ten Police Stations, 2020,” he added.

Earlier the state chief minister took salute from 16 march-past contingents during the observation. He also distributed awards, trophies and commendations to police officers and released a souvenir highlighting various achievements of the Manipur Police department.
