Manipur observes International Nurses’ Day

Imphal, May 16 (EMN): Manipur on Thursday observed the International Nurses’ Day under the aegis of Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) and Student Nurses Association of India, Manipur state branch in Imphal. The event was held with the theme “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Health for All.”
For the society to progress it is imperative for citizens to remain healthy and for that nurses play an important role in providing robust healthcare services, said Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla
She said the event is a reminder of the important role of nurses who are the backbone of the healthcare system.
“TNAI which was established in 1908 and recognised by the Government of India as a service organisation since 1950, is indicative of the importance of this profession to the development of the country,” she said.
The theme of the event truly reflects the intrinsic character of the service rendered by the nurses, she added.
The governor felt that present healthcare establishments need another level of nursing expertise to provide better service to the patients.
Stating that nurses constitute a treasure of human resource, she encouraged them to provide quality services with outmost care for the patients.
Principal Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam said that there are 40 health and wellness centres in the state and the government has plan to open 100 more in the coming years. T
The Government of India has taken up the initiative of Health and Wellness Centre under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme giving top most priority to healthcare.
As part of the celebration, the governor unveiled the logo of the TNAI, Manipur state branch.
Recipient of TNAI Lifetime Achievement Award, 2018, Laishram Ibohal Singh, Registered Male Nurse, was felicitated for his contribution in establishing Manipur Nursing Council and full-fledged College of Nursing in RIMS.
Certificates were also distributed to the participants of the quiz competition conducted as part of the weeklong celebration.
