Manipur Covid-19 positive cases reach 124

Imphal, June 4 (EMN): With 16 new positive cases reported on June 4, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the northeastern state of Manipur has increased to 124, while the total number of active cases stands at 86, Health department officials said on Thursday.

So far a total of 38 patients have been discharged from hospitals.

According to Covid-19 Common Control Room press release issued on Thursday, 13 persons (seven male six females) were confirmed Covid-19 positive at the VRDL (Virus Research & Diagnostic Laboratory) of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday night.  The patients are from Bishnupur (one male), Chandel (one male), Churachandpur (one male and one female), Kangpokpi (one male, four females including a three-year-old girl), Tamenglong (one female) and Tengnoupal (three male) districts.

Those from Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts are returnees from Mumbai. The persons for Chandel and Tamenglong are returnees from Delhi.

The persons from Tengnoupal are Pune returnee. One of the positive person from Churachandpur is a Chennai returnee while other one is a nurse with no travel history.

Later, three more cases including two male and one female were tested Covid-19 positive at VRDL, JNIMS on Thursday, said another press release.

The newly confirmed cases are being shifted to the Covid care facilities at JNIMS, it said. All necessary precautionary measures are being taken up.

Meanwhile the state government is making elaborate arrangements to bring back stranded people despite many constraints besides enhancing testing capacity and other measures. So far the government has organised 22 trains and brought back around 22,419 stranded natives from various parts of the country, according to a press release. The state government is running 17 institutional quarantine centres and 770 community quarantine centres.
