Imphal, June 15 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday handed over a cash reward of INR 10 lakh to Amrita Sinha, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi district for recovering large amount of drugs by Kangpokpi police team on May 9 and June 10.
Singh stated that the reward had been given to Kangpokpi police in appreciation of their dedication and commitment towards uprooting drug menace from the state by conducting search operations at various areas of the district.
Stating that the district police also took a crucial role in destroying poppy cultivations across the district, he said that the government would continue to reward police personnel who perform their duties sincerely.
In his speech, DGP Manipur P Doungel stated that the two incidents of seizure of large amounts of drugs on May 9 and June 10, 2022 by the team of Kangpokpi Police had really boosted the morale of the police force as well as the War on Drugs campaign.
He also highlighted the importance of drug seizure at Imphal-Mao highway as illegal drugs coming from Myanmar and other districts go outside the state through the highway.
It may be mentioned that on May 9, a police team of Kangpokpi Police Station recovered 212 soap cases containing suspected heroin (number 4) weighing 2.1 kg approximately and valued at about INR 63 lakh in the local market and INR 31 crore in the international market.
Similarly, on June 10, the Kangpokpi police team recovered 181 soap cases of the same contraband weighing 2.1 kg and valued at about INR 54 lakh in the national market and INR 27 crore in the international market.
