Manipur CM congratulates Mary Kom

Imphal, Nov. 8 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has congratulated star boxer and Member of Rajya Sabha, Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte, better known as Mary Kom on her winning another gold medal at the Asian Boxing Championship at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on Wednesday.
Mary Kom, who will be turning 35 on Nov. 25, won the gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in the Light Flyweight (48kg) category, defeating DPR Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the final bout 5-0 by unanimous decision.
“I am extremely happy that the champion pugilist has once again won accolades for herself and brought laurels for the state of Manipur and the nation,” said Biren Singh in a congratulatory message issued tonight. “Manipur is proud of her accomplishments.”
State’s Information and Public Relations Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh also extended congratulations to the boxing stalwart and MP for winning fifth gold medal in Asian boxing championship.
“Mary Kom has made the state and the whole country proud again with another stellar performance at the world stage,” says Minister Biswajit.
This is Mary Kom’s sixth medal in the Asian Women’s Boxing Championships and fifth gold medal, having won four gold medals and one silver medal in previous editions of the tournament.
