Manipur Agri dept distributes paddy sapling to farmers

Imphal, August 3 (EMN): In an effort to increase agricultural products to meet the needs of the people of Manipur, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian who holds Veterinary and Animal Husbandry portfolio distributed paddy saplings to the farmers of Haotal, Pangei and Imphal on Thursday.
he Minister was on a visit along with Additional Chief Secretary Suhel Aktar, Agriculture Director Ph Rajendra Singh and officials of the department, to the site of the Raising of Community Nursery paddy located at Sainik School Campus, Imphal.
According to sources it stated that not only the farmers of Pangei areas but also farmers who live in other parts of Manipur can avail sapling of paddy for transplanting in their field from the department of agriculture. These seeds variety are RCM-10 and RCM-12 which can be harvested in 100 days.
It may be mentioned that a total of 78,677 hectares of agricultural land including 77,900 hectares of paddy, 307 hectares of maize, 300 hectares of pulses,150 hectares of oil seed and 20 hectares of sugarcane have been damaged in the floods in Manipur. The Agriculture department had announced to provide 12.5 metric tonnes of short duration paddy seeds through the District Agriculture officers for preparing community paddy nursery across 20 hectares.
A memorandum has been submitted to Centre for providing flood assistance .
