Dimapur, Dec. 28 (EMN): Public of Longshen town in Mon district undertook a peaceful protest rally against shifting of Longshen EAC headquarters on December 27 and subsequently submitted a ‘reminder note’ to the deputy commissioner of Mon through the EAC of Longshen.

The protest rally was initiated jointly by Longshen Town Students’ Union (LTSU), Longshen Town Konyak Nyupuh ShekoKhong (LT-KNSK), Goan Buras Board and Longshen Town Council (LTC), stated an update from LTSU president, M Mengan, and the general secretary, Manjen T.

The public of Longshen have resented the indifferent attitude of the state government for failing to give positive response despite several representations submitted through the Goan Buras Board of Longshen on November 21, 2021, Tangnyu Village Council on September 28, 2021, and Sheanghah Chingnyu Village Council on October 1, 2021, against shifting of the EAC headquarters.

The public claimed that the idea for shifting of the town was based on vested interest of some selfish individuals and not on the public consensus of Longshen town and the original land owners namely Tangnyu and Sheanghah Chingnyu villages. It also mentioned that the Mon district administration had not given any prior information or public notification regarding the shifting of Longshen EAC headquarters.

The public reminded the government that Longshen town, after its inception, has reached the milestone of 41 years and is currently inhabited by 103 households with a rising population of 557 people. It added that the town has various government and non-governmental establishments such as EAC headquarters, Forest department, dispensary, 33KV power sub-station, GPS, GMS etc., and various NGO like Longshen Town Students’ Union (LTSU), Longshen Town Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (LT-KNSK) and Konyak Union (KU) Longshen unit.

The public reiterated that shifting of such a prominent town would amount to loss for both parties (government and inhabitants), in the form of massive displacement and loss of identities and properties. While opposing the move to shift the town, the public has termed it ‘totally absurd and irrational.’

While anticipating a positive outcome, the Longshen public reminded the concerned authority to intervene into the matter at the earliest possible. It further cautioned that the government would be solely held responsible in the event of any misunderstanding or untoward incident arising out of the issue.
