DIMAPUR, MAY 23 : IT’S big and scary. The Langso Ayung Bridge, the lifeline of Longleng district, has become a frightening route for travelers and a nerve wrecking experience for commuters.
The image of the bridge that a concerned citizen sent to Eastern Mirror on Monday has a fright of its own. The photo itself describes the possible harrowing time commuters and drivers, especially, must have to experience to get to the other side.
The bridge is almost 50 years old. It has seen some temporary touch-up on occasions but the years have worn down the structure.
Vehicles have to slow down at frequent intervals to negotiate away from the gaping hole on the floor of the bridge. The hole has not been repaired for a long time, which invariably widened the hole even more. The citizen wondered if authorities would ever come up with measures early to prevent accidents along the route, and of course, address the inconveniences commuters must have to face.
