Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): An empowerment platform for rural women, the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK), organised a workshop on February 19 and the 20th.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the district task force of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme for Longleng district, a press release from the organisers stated on Wednesday.
The BBBP is a campaign of the government of India that aims to promote knowledge about and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls.
The press release stated that the MSK conducted a “felicitation and an awareness program” focusing on women and girl child rights, at Yaongyimchen and Yachem village in Longleng.

The organisers stated that the objective of the programme was to ‘create an environment in which women realize their full potential; and to encourage the spirit of voluntary community service and gender equality among the people.’
District Coordinator Tutinungla Phom gave a brief note about “issues” and schemes related to women and girl child, the updates stated. She was stated to have encouraged the women especially pregnant women and lactating mothers, to avail the benefits meant for them.

The gathering also discussed the importance of the health of a mother and of the girl child’s education. Phom talked to the gathering about various women-related schemes and offices such as the One Stop Centre, Women Helpline 181 (police, hospital, ambulance services, legal aid, protection officers; and video conferencing facilities that make up the helpline); antenatal check up for pregnant Women; the Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana; Janani Surakshaj Yojana; and the Sukhanya Samriddhi Account, among others.

The coordinator was stated to have urged parents to build funds for their children’s future education and marriage expenses especially for their daughters.
Phungla Phom, a member of the MSK of Longleng “felicitated” a number of people during the event, the press release stated. She gave recognition to girls who had ‘an outstanding achievement in academic as well as in co-curricular activities.’

Likewise, Phungla honoured ‘a single mother who raised her children five sons and two daughters who are all educated and well settled,’ the organisers stated.

‘They were given gift hampers along with certificates. And also encouraged them to participate in any kind of activities and take stand for their rights.’
