Longchem students take to street demanding for posting of teacher

Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): Demanding immediate posting of mathematics teacher in the school, students of Government High School, Longchem, along with Longchem Kaketshir Telongjem (LKT) in Mokokchung district, took out a silent procession in Longchem town and submitted a representation to the deputy commissioner, Mokokchung, through the EAC, Longchem, on February 22.

The students’ apex body of Longchem town, Longchem Kaketshir Telongjem (LKT), in a representation letter addressed to the DC Mokokchung, has appealed for immediate posting of mathematics teacher at GHS Longchem, which has been lying vacant since December 2017.

The representation jointly appended by LKT president, Katywaba, and the general secretary, Bendangsunep, stated that GHS Longhcem has been running without a mathematics teacher thereby putting the career of students at stake since 2017. The students’ body pointed out that the previous mathematics teacher was transferred out in the year 2017 with no reliever till date.

It lamented that the concerned department had failed to address the issue despite repeated appeals from the apex students’ body and parents’ representatives. The representation also pointed out that the lackadaisical attitude of the authority concerned had led to negative outcomes for the unprivileged and aspirant students which in turn resulted in low enrolment in the school and poor outcomes.

Taking into cognisance the pitiable conditions of the school and the students, LKT has sought immediate intervention of the department concerned to redress the issue. It further warned that the students’ body would be compelled to take drastic steps for the welfare of the students’ community if the demand for immediate posting of mathematics teacher is not fulfilled at the earliest.
