LMYC wins Chunthuigai Kamei memorial football tournament

IMPHAL — The first Chunthuigai Kamei Memorial 11 Men Football Knockout Tournament concluded on Wednesday at Makhuam-5 playground in Manipur’s Noney district.

The Chunthuigai Kamei Memorial Trophy committee organised the tournament in collaboration with the Makhuam-5 Youth Club under the motto ‘one team, one mission.’

Chairman of the Hill Area Committee (HAC), Manipur, Dinganglung Gangmei, and social activist Majabung Gangmei attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and guest of honour, respectively.

In his speech, Dinganglung said that the late Chunthuigai Kamei was one of the great leaders of the Zeliangrong community and that he was a resourceful person during his tenure as student leader for the Zeliangrong community.

Kamei served as the area secretary of Zeliangrong Students’ Union Longmai Area, from 2005 to 2008, and as the state secretary of ZSUM from 2010 to 2012.

The final match was played between Khumji-4 Youth Club and Longmai-1 Modern Social and Cultural Youth Club (LMYC), with the latter winning by a solitary point.

LMYC walked away with a cash prize of INR 50,000 and a trophy, while Khumji-4 Youth Club received a cash prize of INR 30,000 and a trophy. The tournament featured 20 football teams in total.
