Lenjem Hospital launches advanced cataract surgery
MOKOKCHUNG — Lenjem Hospital has introduced Phacoemulsification or phaco, a cutting-edge cataract surgery technique that utilises ultrasound technology to break down and remove the eye’s lens.
The method is considered one of the safest and most effective ways to treat cataracts, offering patients improved outcomes and faster recovery times.
The dedication programme was held on Wednesday, which began with an invocation prayer said by the pastor of Sungkomen Baptist Church. Three persons were successfully operated on the first day.
With the installation of machines imported from Japan and Germany, Lenjem Hospital boasts of the second hospital in Nagaland to offer the advanced facility.
The proprietor of Lenjen informed that previously, patients from Mokokchung had to travel to Jorhat or Dimapur for cataract surgeries but with the introduction of phaco, residents can now access this treatment locally, saving both time and money.
Every surgery is performed by a super specialist, ensuring a high standard of care. The cost of the surgery depended on the type of lens required, ranging between INR13,000 and INR 20,000.
