Law and order situation in Dimapur ‘peaceful’, says Police Commissioner

Dimapur, Dec. 22 (EMN): Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Rothihu Tetseo on Wednesday stated that law and order situation for the last 12 months in Dimapur was ‘peaceful’ and ‘under control.’

Addressing the last press conference for the year at his official chamber at Police Commissionerate Dimapur, Tetseo stated that Dimapur Police was adding more enforcement for controlling extortion and illegal taxation activities under the Dimapur Police Action Plan, an update from DPRO Dimapur informed.

During the last four months, it informed that extortion cases had come down since the implementation of the District Action Plan.

It further stated that traffic police had also added ‘extra enforcement’ for preventing accidents, especially on the highway areas.

Tetseo informed that advisories had been issued for adherence in the interest of public safety and road traffic convenience in view of the ongoing festive season.

Meanwhile, DCP (Crime) Bharat highlighted the crime statistics of the past 12 months, covering Crimes under IPC and Special and Local Law.

Bharat highlighted major achievements, extortion and arm act cases, major breakthrough in investigation, firing incident, fraud and cyber crime.

Meanwhile, in view of the ongoing festive season, the Dimapur Police has issued the following public advisories:

  • Road traffic-related enforcement will be re-enforced, especially around Dimapur city centre and Purana Bazaar/ Chumoukedima Highway stretch. Public has been requested to maintain strict adherence to all the rules.
  • armed deployment as per District Action Plan would continue at strategic locations around the district to ‘thwart extortion/illegal taxation related activities’. Dimapur Police will continue to deploy special armed escort to escort trucks/goods vehicles bound for Dimapur or in transit towards Kohima from New field/ Dillai Gate till Medziphema.
  • Dimapur Police has issued temporary license for sale of firecrackers but manufacture, sell and use of crackers generating noise exceeding 125 DB (Al) or 145 DB (C) pk at the distance of four metres from the point of bursting and joined fire crackers is prohibited. Public has been requested not to burst fireworks within 100 metres radius from silent zones (hospitals/ healthcare centres, educational institutes, religious places). On Christmas and New Year eve, fireworks will be permitted from 11:55 pm till 12:30 am.
  • On Christmas and New Year eve, public/ evening street vendors have been requested to avoid overcrowding around busy market places and obstruct the thoroughfare of road traffic at busy traffic intersections like City Tower, Holy Cross Point, Deluxe Point and New Flyover.
  • All restaurants, lounges, night carnivals and night bazaars have been directed to close by 10 pm.
  • In view of the spread of Omicron, public hs been requested to maintain strict adherence to SOP, especially in public places.
