KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 30

A late equalizer from Langamba of Addax FC ruined the hope of Medziphema Village Students’ Union (MVSU) to make it to the pre-quarters of the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy held at Kohima Local Ground.
Playing the second match of the day, MVSU were almost on the verge of victory until a late goal from Langamba in the 68th minute of the 70-minutes match, gave his team the much needed equalizer to take his team to the tie-break where they (Addax) emerged victorious.
Addax FC of D. Khel, Kohima village, was pushed behind as MVSU player Kevi Koza’s long range shot got past the keeper in the 15thminute. Trailing behind, Addax FC fought back to stay in the game and kept troubling the MVSU defence line as they pushed for the equalizer.
Had Addax FC lost the tie-break, they would have gone home discontent as three of their attempts hit the bar. Cursing their luck, Addax FC players were left demoralized in failing to find the equalizer. MVSU players were equally formidable and kept frustrating their opponents who went all out to stay in the game.
As the match entered the final minutes of play, Addax FC found a savior in Langamba who got past the keeper to give his team with much jubilation. MVSU players will only blame themselves as they let go their opportunity to make it to the last 16.
Earlier in the first match, Tiema Khe of Kidima village came from behind to beat Veracious FC, Phek 3-1.
Veracious FC took the lead in the very `1st minute of the match through their midfielder Wesheko Mero. However, Veracious FC’s jubilation was short lived as Sorhosül Pucho of Tiema Khe equalized in the 20 minute.
Just before the interval, Sorhosül, who scored a double hat-trick in the first round against Junior Anchor Club, again found the net in the 34thminute following an error from the custodian of Veracious FC. With a double hat-trick in the first match and two goals today, Sorhosül who have scored eight goals so far, is the leading scorer of the ongoing tournament.
Entering the last quarter of the 70-minutes match, Tiema Khe’s substitute centre forward Kevisekho Thokhwe joined the celebration as he scored the third goal for his team taking the score line to 3-1. Though making it to the pre-quarters, Tiema Khe team was given a set back with a reason to worry as their talisman Sorhosül was penalized with a yellow card in the 66th minute.
With the victory, Tiema Khe will next play against Addax FC in the pre-quarters on 7th October.
