KVK organises trainings for farmers

Dimapur, Dec. 1 (EMN): ICAR, KVK Peren, organised a three-day training programme on “poultry rearing and management” at KVK office, Jalukie, from November 28 to the 30th. The programme was conducted under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP).

During the technical sessions, various resource persons namely Dr. L Babita, Z James Kikon, Dr. Patu K Zeliang, Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, Dr. Imtiwati, Dr. Shyamananda and Dr. O Kurien delivered lectures on various topics related to poultry farming and management.

A hands-on practical demonstration on construction of low cost poultry house with bamboo was also demonstrated by Dr. Kurien, an update from Dr. L Babita Devi, programme coordinator, KVK Peren, stated on Saturday.

Distribution of farm tools and implements under TSP was also conducted on November 30 in collaboration with College of Veterinary Science (CoVsc), CAU Jalukie. Tools like cono weeder, wheel hoe, seed dibbler and ridge maker were provided to the farmers by CoVsc, CAU Jalukie.

Altogether, 31 farmers from Bongkolong, Ngwalwa, Jalukie town, Jalukiekam, Samziuram, Beisumpuikam, New Jalukie  were benefitted under the programme.

In a similar programme, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mon, organised a training for farmers and farmers-scientist interaction programme from November 27 to the 29 at Aopao, Angjangyang and Sowa Changle villages.

During the course of training, topics on income generations through backyard poultry farming, improved agricultural practices for doubling farmers’ income were covered, an update from Dr. Paihem Michui, ACTO (Animal Science), stated.

He added that different aspects of crops and livestock sectors such as importance and conservation of seeds, management of field as well as commercial crops, zoonotic disease, rabies and its effect on public health, importance of timely deworming and vaccination in livestock including poultry, pet animals were discussed by the resource persons namely Dr. MS Sachan, ACTO (PBG), and Dr. Paihem Michui, ACTO (Animal Science) during farmers-scientist interaction.

Altogether, 110 farmers and farmwomen were benefitted.
