Diphu, June 26 (EMN): The Karbi Students’ Association (KSA), Dillai Head Branch has expressed happiness over the repairing of National Highway-29 (old name NH-36) which is one of the most dilapidated National Highways passing through Karbi Anglong district and two states of Nagaland and Manipur.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror correspondent, President, KSA Dillai Head Branch, Nobin Rongpi said, “we are indeed much happy that the National Highway authority has heard about our grievances that they have just started the repair works and filling up of potholes in the major part which is quite a relief to commuters though it is not completed yet”.

He informed that, regarding the dilapidated road conditions, we have staged a protest on NH-29 (old name NH-36) on June 4, by planting rice and rearing fishes on the road.

Further, he also informed that on June 10, a memorandum was submitted to Union Minister i/c Roads and Transports, Nitin Gadkari through Bokajan Civil SDO. Soon after that deputy director of National Highways Authority of India has visited the site and we have seen repairing works in progress.

Mention can be made, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, Finance Minister of Assam stated that NH-29 (Parakhowa to Dimapur) and NH-129 (Dimapur to Numaligarh) are very worse, but NH-29 from Parakhowa to Manja is motorable but from Manja to Dimapur is not a motorable road condition so for that by the month of December it will be motorable and for NH-129 (Dimapur to Numaligarh) new estimate has been made for improvement of road condition, this was stated during the public meeting on the 68th foundation of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on June 23, held at New sports Complex, Dongkamokam, in West Karbi Anglong.
