Krishi Vigyan Kendra organises Kisan Mela at NU Lumami

Agricultural products put on display at the ‘Kisan Mela under Jal Shakti Abhyan’ held at Multipurpose Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami.

Dimapur, July 28 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, organised a ‘Kisan Mela under Jal Shakti Abhyan’ at Multipurpose Hall, Nagaland University, Lumami, on Thursday.

KVK Zunheboto, NU, in a press release informed that registrar of Nagaland University, Dr. Abemo, who was the chief guest of the inaugural programme, exhorted the farmers to take maximum advantage of the KVK and stressed on the need to improve productivity of the crops.

He urged the farmers to be proactive in their approach and seek technical guidance from the subject experts of the KVK. Abemo also asked the farmers to provide feedback of the technology so that it could be demonstrated on a large scale.

Dr. Abemo, who also inaugurated the farmers’ stalls, appreciated the farmers for showcasing their products.

CTO (Plant Protection), Wapangtoshi, advised the farmers on plant protection measures to be taken for controlling pests in different crops through plant health camp, while SMS (Animal Science), Dr. Z Nongothung Ezung, distributed anti helmintics and mineral mixture to the needy farmers, the release stated.

In the inaugural programme, SMS Agri. Extension), Dr. Kundan Kumar, welcomed all the farmers.

A brief introduction of the purpose and objective of the programme was presented by principal scientist and head KVK Zunheboto, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia. He also elaborated on the importance of Jal Shakti Abhyan, which was launched by government of India to “Catch the rain when it falls.”

A total of 10 SHGs from seven villages participated in the Kisan Mela.

In the technical session, CTO (G&PB), Dr. Visakho Shunyu, spoke on the “Rain water harvesting”.

“Kisan Mela provided a platform for the farmers to interact with the staff of the KVK and to learn new technologies which can be easily adopted by them,” the release added.
