Aimed at creating awareness on the adage “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, the Angami Public Organization (APO) supported by its frontal organisations – Angami Gazetted Officer’s Krotho (AGOK), Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho (AMK), Angami Youth Organization (AYO) and Angami Students’ Union (ASU) – today launched ‘Cleaner Kohima Campaign’ under the theme ‘For a cleaner Kohima’.
The campaign was official launched by Minister for Social Welfare Kiyanilie Peseyie through a mass social work at Old MLA Hostel Junction. In his address to the participants, the minister said ‘For a cleaner Kohima’ campaign is a positive step and called upon the denizens of Kohima to keep the capital town neat and clean. He stressed that the cleanliness drive should not end today but should be continued in future.
Cleanliness drives are good efforts for good health of every citizen, he said while appealing to all to continue such drives on a regular basis. He further appealed to the people of every nook and corner of the State to extend their hand and cooperation in such cleanliness drive.
Minister for Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology and Wildlife Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, parliamentary secretaries Khriehu Liezietsu and Er. Vikho-o Yhoshu and deputy commissioner W. Honje Konyak and several other dignitaries also participated in the programme.
“Nagas profess to be godly people, therefore, the next step for us is to maintain cleanliness. This campaign calls for a “Cleanliness for everyone and everyone for cleanliness,” stated organizing committee in a pamphlet.
The organizing committee appealed to the citizens of Kohima to maintain their own wastes and not to expect others to clean them.
It also asked the people to keep the roads clean and not to throw chips, sweet wrappers etc. here and there or through vehicle windows.
It also requested the citizens not to dump building materials on the road sides and at the same time to park vehicle responsibly.
Asking the people to cultivate aesthetic sense, it called upon the people not to spit (especially paan juice).
It also made an appeal to the citizens to sweep their surroundings daily be it private or a public area.
Besides town areas, Kohima colonies and wards also took part in the cleanliness drive.
