Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye, on Saturday advocated inculcating Naga culture within our border especially in a cosmopolitan district like Dimapur and be a dominant group. However, he said we are not careful in maintaining the culture rendered by our forefathers.
The Rajya Sabha MP said this at the launching of Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) in Bade village as model village adopted by him in the village community hall.

Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye, being felicitated at the launching of SAGY programme in Bade village on Saturday.

While asserting that there are many other deserving villages to be adopted as model village under SAGY, the MP underlined ‘two outstanding reasons’ for him to choose Bade village – because of the significant connection Bade village has with the Naga national movement history and its strategic location from geo-political aspect.
Referring to the two villages- Ikishe village and Seluophe village adopted by the late Rajya Sabha MP, H Khekiho Zhimomi, and also Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio, under SASY, Kenye expressed, “I don’t know how well those villages are doing including their priorities but villages adopted under SASY should be a demonstration, a prototype which must be a dream project of what a model village should be like.”
With the adoption of Bade village as a model village under SASY, Kenye indicated that heavy responsibility lies ahead of the village citizens and the load heavier than it was.
“The important aspect of this model village is to produce human model by exemplifying Naga qualities,” conveyed the MP.
Recognising honesty as a golden quality in a person, Kenye articulated that modernisation and civilisation has taken its toll while the society remains ‘undefined and unrefined.’ He, therefore, reminded the Bade village community that they, including him, have a good task ahead to make Bade village the hub of tradition.
Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, in his keynote address, drew attention on the goals and objectives of SAGY for the better understanding of the community. The programme launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a rural development programme focusing upon the development of the villages which includes- social, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilisation of the village community, elucidated Yhome.
With the aim to translate the broad vision of Mahatma Gandhi about an ideal Indian village into a reality, keeping in view the present context, the key objective of SAGY is the development of model village through the implementation of existing schemes and certain new initiatives to be designed in the local context which may vary from village to village, the DC said.
“We are always dependent on the government for services but through the SAGY programme we will be independent and give back to the government at the same time with cooperation from the community towards the SAGY concept,” expressed Yhome.
He expressed concern over our attitude towards government properties as we have no sense of belongingness and attachment. He urged upon the people of Bade village on the need to change mindset towards government properties especially with the launching of SAGY programme.
