Kechavor Theünuo wins gold at ADCC India Open

Dimpaur, Jan. 4 (EMN): Kechavor Theünuo won gold medal at the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) India Open held at Riva Beach Resort in North Goa on January 2.

Representing Crosstrain Fight Club, Theünuo won the gold medal in men’s +18 years beginner 77 kg category by defeating Ravi Bharathi of Institute of Jiu-Jitsu, while the third position was secured by Atharva Deshmusk. A total of nine competitors participated in the said category.

Crosstrain Fight Club emerged as the top academy at the ADCC India Open 2022, with a metal tally of three gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals while Institute of Jiu-Jitsu came in second with a metal tally of two gold medals, one silver medal, and two bronze medals, Temple Jiu-Jitsu secured the third position with two gold medals and one bronze medal; while AKA Mandrem secured fourth position and Jiu-Jitsu Ronins fifth.

The competition weight classes consisted of men’s beginner at 55 kg, 66 kg, 77 kg, 88 kg, 99 kg; men’s intermediate at 55 kg, 66 kg, 77 kg, 88 kg, 99 kg; men’s professional at 55 kg, 66 kg, 77 kg, 88 kg, 99 kg and woman’s beginner at 50 kg, 60 kg and 70 kg.

At the second edition, a total of 72 matches took place while Nihaal Joseph (Institute of Jiu-Jitsu), who won gold in the men’s +18 years professional 66 kg category, was awarded the best grappler at the event.

Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio also took to Twitter to congratulate Kechavor Theünuo on winning the gold medal at the event.

“Congratulations, Avor Theünuo on winning the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) India Open for Submission Wrestling/Grappling in the 77kg category. I wish you the best as you play in bigger matches to come,” he tweeted.
