KAAC to conduct eviction drive at Assam-Nagaland border

Diphu, Jan. 3 (EMN): Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang on Sunday announced during a press conference that the KAAC will take up an eviction drive to evict those settling in Khan basti, Lahorijan in the Assam-Nagaland inter-state border, without possessing any land document of KAAC.

Held at Karbi Anglong Sports Association conference hall, the CEM said, “An Executive Committee (EC) meeting will be convened on January 3 and resolution will be taken up for eviction to those settling Khan basti without possessing any land documents of KAAC. But for those possessing land pattas of KAAC and for them will not be evicted.  Eviction will be either on January or February. Formal notice will be served to them.” 

“The eviction is not targeted to any particular community, but to those illegal settlers only. There can be Karbis and Nagas also, but if they do not posses land documents, they also will be evicted,” CEM said.

Highlighting the various developmental schemes implemented in the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong in the five-year term, the CEM said, “Many state and central institutions will be setting up in Karbi Anglong.  The Assam University Diphu Campus (AUDC) will be converted into full-fledged university. State university in West Karbi Anglong, Engineering College, Agriculture college, Forest college and Hotel Management and sugar mill will come up in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.”

“For BPL families– it will be free admission. UPSC and APSC free coaching will be organised by KAAC. Team from Delhi will come here,” he said.

He also said Karbi Anglong has become peaceful district.

‘There are few issues to be addressed. There is issue of Naga Rengma and Kuki tribes and we are trying to channelise with the State government to re-solve their issues,” he said.

The CEM also said that Law college will be completed in Diphu and BEd.

“College is coming up at Donkamukam in West Karbi Anglong. A Sainik School to be set-up in Langlokso. The State government under the CMship of Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended more support for development of two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. After flushing out illegal settlers in Langkaijan, the KAAC has taken 3000 bighas for airport”, he said.

The CEM announced that by this month, teacher’s appointment to 800 candidates who passed TET will be given. A booklet will be brought by the KAAC on the highlight of five-year developmental activities taken up through Central and State sponsored schemes and from KAAC’s own resources. 

The CEM also said that due to Covid-19 pandemic, development had to be halted for last two years.

When asked about the holding of KAAC election, the CEM said that it will be conducted in April, 2022.
