Joint coordinated efforts needed to save Manipur, says Biren Singh

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday called upon the concerned parties for joint and coordinated efforts from among legislators, executives and judiciaries to save the state from issues of drug menace, illegal immigrants, and mass deforestation.

Biren Singh was addressing the inaugural function of a three-day 10th anniversary celebration of the High Court of Manipur at the High Court Complex in Imphal.

Stating that creating a comprehensive forum consisting of representatives from Legislative, Executive and Judiciary, is the need of the hour, he cautioned that the state is in an alarming situation with problems of large-scale deforestation, illegal drug trafficking and illegal immigrants.

Stressing on the need for coming up with a stringent act to tackle all such problems, he urged all competent authorities not to compromise on important issues such as national and state security. He also sought support and suggestions to overcome such problems.

Reiterating that the state government’s War on Drugs campaign and its effort to protect the reserved or protected forest or wildlife is for the betterment of the state’s future, he said the government is not going against anyone.

On the government’s step to strengthen the judicial system, he said the District Court building at Tamenglong had been constructed with a total cost of INR 31.85 crore and would be ready for inauguration by December this year.

He said, the construction of G+3 Annexe building District Court building Thoubal is also completed and would be inaugurated soon while the construction of district court complexes at Kakching and Senapati with an estimated cost of INR 10.40 crore each are in progress.

He further informed that the government would construct a single court building at Mao with a judicial quarter at Mao with an estimated cost of INR 4.53 crore.

In view of the increasing number of cases handled by NIA and CBI and nearly 100 numbers of which trials are handled by existing District and Sessions Judge, a Special Court for NIA and CBI Cases would be established as soon as possible, he added.
