IMPHAL — The Janata Dal(United) Manipur unit on Saturday demanded a special state assembly session to discuss the present crisis in Manipur and make recommendations to the union government.

During a press conference in Imphal, chief spokesperson and former minister Dr. Nimaichand Luwang of JD (U) state unit, said that both the BJP and its government in the state were silent on the present crisis in the state.

“We demand a clear cut statement on the crisis and steps taken to resolve the crisis,” he said.

Luwang added that no union minister has so far visited the state to enquire about the problems and issues faced by the people of Manipur.

On behalf of the party’s state unit, he said they expect the 10 MLAs belonging to Chin-Kuki group to consider their demand for separate administration (in the state) in the interest of all communities of the state.

Informing that the JD(U) Manipur will organise an all political party consultative meet on May 27 to discuss the present crisis and make recommendations, he said that the party also offers to meet leaders of the Kuki MLAs and civil society organisations to remove all misunderstanding and resolve the present crisis.

He also alleged that the present state government of BJP has lost the confidence of the people as it has failed in respect of incompetence, inadequate relief to the displaced people.

Both the Central and state governments will have to take necessary measures for the protection of people, provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the affected people, he stated.

Participating in the press conference, former MLA Samuel Jendai also reacted to the statement of Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga that unification /integration of “Zo” areas is directly challenging the unity and integrity of Manipur.

JD(U) Manipur unit president and former minister Ksh Biren Singh, former MLAs Kh Loken were also present during the day’s press conference in Imphal.
