IPCER conducts seminar on suicide prevention

Dimapur, Sep. 12 (EMN): Identifying suicide or suicidal tendencies as a serious problem, the Institute of Psychology Counselling and Educational Research (IPCER) conducted a seminar Mary college and Mount Mary B. Ed college on the theme ‘Lets speak out and reach out to prevent suicide’.
A press release issued by the IPCER Director, Nukshi Esther Imsong, stated the main speaker of the seminar was Eccli Zhimo, student counsellor cum counselling psychologist of IPCER team.

Zhimo, while highlighting about suicidal tendencies and its preventions, said that Nagaland, as per National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in 2015, is listed as the second least suicidal state, however, she said that at present, the suicide cases are increasing.

She said that some of the common causes for suicides are ‘depression, high stress life style, extreme mental illness such as bipolar disorder, extreme anxiety, emotional breakdown, sudden death of loved ones, trauma, financial problem, high expectation from families, social isolation, drug addiction, inferiority complex and list go on and on’.

Zhimo said that every individual must be aware of the sign and symptoms of suicide so that one can stop and also prevent others from committing suicide.
“IPCER team work tirelessly to reach Out as Many as to educate to promote and to prevent any kind of Mental illness that effect individual with thier motto”Change individual mindset brings changes in the society,” the release stated.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). WHO has been co-sponsor of the day. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented.

In past years, over 300 activities in around 70 countries were reported to IASP, including educational and commemorative events, press briefings and conferences, as well as Facebook and Twitter coverage.
