Interwheel women’s sports tournament underway in Dimapur

Dimapur, March 20 (EMN): A two-day inter-wheel women’s sports tournament began at Ram Janaki School ground in Dimapur on Saturday.

The tournament is being organised by Interwheel Club of Dimapur.

Cricket and carrom will be played during the two-day tournament with four teams vying for the trophy — Interwheel team, Bengali Lady Riders, Viva Jain Strikers and Agroha Nari Shakti.

Rose Yanthan, OC of women’s police station, who was the chief guest of the inaugural programme, appreciated the organisers of the programme. She also encouraged the women to bring change and therefore “be the change”.

She also shared that playing sports lift the spirits and added that winning was important but participation was  the most important. She therefore asked the participants not to be discouraged even if they lose.

Principal of Ram Janaki School, HP Gupta, said that women were not ‘lacking behind’ but they were far ahead and if given the right platform, they could achieve anything in life.

He also shared that sports had the power to bring people together. He further urged the participants to ‘rejoice in everything’, even if they lose. He also encouraged everyone to play sports and games as they are necessary in life for developing one’s mind and soul.

“If you are physically not fit then you are mentally affected too,” he added.
