Inter personal media campaign held in Kiphire

Expounding that ‘Saakshar Bharat,’ which means literate India through adult education, is an important mission with noble objective, Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Neposo Theluo expressed believe that we can achieve the target and bring a lot of changes in our country only if all the functionary work together with sincerity.
The Deputy Commissioner who is also chairman of District Literacy Mission Authority (DLMA), Neposo Theluo said this while inaugurating the two day Saakshar Bharat Interpersonal Media Campaign at Kiphire on May 13.
Highlighting on the activities of literacy mission in the district, Neposo said that this noble mission should not be done only on paper but carry out real activities in the right spirit to benefit people of the district to bring changes. He said that this mission is targeted towards the youth from 15-35 years who constitute the most productive section in the society adding that school drop out and uneducated are mostly from this age group. Stating that a person who cannot read or write has a lesser vision than that of educated person, he has stressed on imparting quality education and expressed concern that this age group might create havoc in the society if they do not utilized their time in a more meaningful manner.
The DC said through Saakshar Bharat, school drop outs and uneducated youth would be encouraged to enroll in adult education. He also opined that this literate India mission should not only focus on imparting elementary education but should also on imparting vocational training to this age group so that they equip themselves with skills development to become self reliance and be useful citizens. He has urged the mission functionary to be dedicated in their works to bring changes in the society.State Nodal Officer, Saakshar Bharat, R Ekonthung Lotha, in his key note address, said the aims of Saakshar Bharat is to further promote and strengthen the adult education by extending education options to those adult who have lost the opportunity of access to formal education including literacy, basic education equivalency to formal education, vocational education skills development, physical and emotional development practical arts, applied sciences, sports and recreation with a target age group of 15 years and above.
Ekonthung said the National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA), Department of School Education and Literacy under Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India, has taken up the Inter person media Campaign on four components comprising electoral literacy, legal literacy, rights, rights & entitlement, disaster management & civil defence and financial Literacy. He said this four components campaign is going all over Saakshar Bharat districts in India to give awareness of elector’s rights and legal literacy.
