Dimapur, Feb. 11 (EMN): Nagaland is one among three
states in India to be sanctioned a total of INR 380.12 crore for various
developmental projects by the Ministry of Tourism under the Swadesh Darshan
scheme. Chhattisgarh and Telangana were the other two states selected for this
scheme.
The ministry has identified tribal circuit as one of the fifteen thematic circuits for development of tourism infrastructure in the country with the objective of showcasing tribal culture, art, handicrafts and providing livelihood and enhancing employment opportunities for tribal populations in the country.
The information was given by Minister of State (I/C) for Culture and Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on July 16 last year.
Two projects have been approved for Nagaland. In the year 2015, an amount of INR 97.36 crore had been sanctioned in November for the ‘development of tribal circuit Peren-Kohima-Wokha’. It added that another project for the ‘development of tribal circuit (Mokokchung-Tuensang-Mon) in Nagaland had been sanctioned with an amount of INR 99.67 crore in the year 2016.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the executive engineer of the engineering wing of Tourism department, T Patton said that the progress of the projects is going well. He added that the department was aiming to complete both the work projects by March this year.
