India see single-day rise of 2.58 lakh Covid-19 infections; Omicron cases rise to 8209

India saw a single-day rise of 2,58,089 (2.58 lakh) Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 3,73,80,253, which included 8,209 cases of the Omicron variant, updated the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

The number of active cases has increased to 16,56,341, which is 4.43% of the total infections, while the death toll has climbed to 4,86,451 with 385 fresh fatalities and recuperation of 1,51,740 patients in the last 24 hours has pushed the total recoveries to 3,52,37,461.

The Health ministry updated that 8,209 Omicron cases have been detected so far and the country saw an increase of 6.02% of the new variant since Sunday (24 hours).

Out of the 29 states and union territories where the Omicron variant has been detected, Maharashtra tops the table with 1,738 infections, followed by West Bengal (1,672), Rajasthan (1,276), Delhi (549) and Karnataka (548).

In the Northeast, Manipur, Assam and Meghalaya have reported Omicron cases.

As many as 3,109 Omicron cases have recovered or migrated in the country so far.

India has administered 1,57,20,41,825 (157.20 crore) doses of vaccines so far, including 39,46,348 doses administered in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, about 2,500 Delhi Police personnel from all ranks and units have been tested positive for the Covid-19 this year (since Janaury 1) and 767 of them had recovered from the disease, according to the latest data.
