India logs 1.79 lakh new Covid-19 cases; Omicron tally crosses 4000-mark

Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN):
India saw a single-day rise of 1,79,723 (1.79 lakh) Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, including 4,033 cases of the Omicron variant, taking the tally to 3,57,07,727, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

The Omicron variant has been detected in 27 states and union territories so far with Maharashtra leading at 1,216, followed by Rajasthan (529), Delhi (513), Karnataka (441), and Kerala (333). At least 14 cases of the variant have been reported in the Northeast – nine in Assam, four in Meghalaya and one in Manipur.

Of the total 4,033 cases of Omicron variant, 1,552 have recovered or migrated, informed the Health ministry.

The number of active cases in India has increased to 7,23,619, accounting for 2.03% of the total infections, while the total recoveries rose to 3,45,00,172 with recuperation of 46,569 patients and the death toll climbed to 4,83,936 following 146 fresh fatalities in the past 24 hours.

A total number of vaccine doses administered in the country is 1,51,94,05,951 (151.94 crore) as per provisional reports till 7 am on Monday and 29,60,975 (29.60 lakh) vaccine doses were administered in the past 24 hours, updated the Health ministry.
