Zeena Singh For Eastern Mirror Sunday

Hello folks,

I believe that life has so much to give if only we cared to give a little thought to the most minuscule of joys (which we’d find so much of) only if we’d stop looking at the looming discomforts and discontents.
So here I am, to share with you the simplest joys in my life as I have experienced some time in my life and those that I take as I face each day, at a time.

Together in Reminiscences

Start of a countdown…packed bags…butterfly flutters…racing pulses… chats energised…keyed- up preps and plans.
A School- leaving day replay? The sentiments and reactions – sure! But this time round, quite just the reverse.
It’s Hello time not Good-bye! A Meeting and not Parting. A getting back together! THIS is a Re-Union!
A reunion of those from diverse backgrounds, creed, religion – assorted, speckled, mixed. Mottled personalities with characteristics varied. Through this disparate though, one common binding thread unites the ‘connect’ of having grown up together – a cord fastened secure.
The congregate may for some be after months few, for some, a year, if not two; can one yet imagine the come- back thrill for whom it could be five decades or more?
Today, dear Readers and Friends, the waiting is over. I am here in the midst of one such assemble – an assemble of an Alma Mater that readied us.. ‘….not for School but for Life..’
We have, everyone of us, grown out of our playgrounds and classrooms, yet here we are today ecstatically making the years melt away to take us back to those growing up days when we hardly held a care .
I look around me and find, friends and fellow school mates who did not permit the expanse and vastness of regions or continents bar their intent, everyone who perhaps leapt every hurdle to be part of this meet.
While I soak in this invaluable cherish, my enquiring mind asks: “ what does an ‘ after –all-the –years’ meet-up do ? Does it disappoint us if we do not find our close friends? Do we come with expectations to find them just the same as we had left them? Are we disillusioned if they are not…?”
…and amidst all the buzz of excitement I comprehend that it’s not friends alone that we look for but reminders of the unforgettable reminisces – the many experiences ( inglorious or splendid), that we celebrate with nostalgia, keeping our spirits young and alive with each invigorating and liberating recollect.
I’m certain you’ll agree that in the company of those who are the very part of our recollections is why and where we are today.
Once more, as I put down my thoughts, my cup of appreciation overflows in gratitude. My heart overwhelms in thankfulness of what we were taught, how we were taught and by whom, for which friendships built within the ‘Old friendly walls’ did not just remain contained within, but spread to the fullest expanse of its wings, full-fledged and strong.
With the blessings in profusion that we have received, let us go out and bless another, even if it be just one other.
