Imchen upgrades Mon hospital

Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Imkong L. Imchen on Independence Day declared upgradation of Mon District Hospital to 100-bed hospital from a 50-bed hospital as a gift to the people of Mon district. Unfurling the national tri-colour as the chief guest of the Independence Day celebration at Mon district local ground this morning, the Minister said following the contributions of the Medicins Sans Frontiers, the Mon district Hospital will now be upgraded to a 100-bed hospital, along with the district hospital at Dimapur.
He said the government is also actively pursuing the establishment of various technical institutes in the state. The establishment of a medical college by upgrading the existing Naga hospital Kohima is being taken up, he said adding that side by side, in order to expedite the establishment of a Medical College at the CISHR, Dimapur, the Nursing College has been approved by DoNER.
In the wake of the successful establishment of the National Institute of Information Technology at Chumekedima, the government is also actively pursuing the setting up of a Maritime Institute and an Aviation Academy in the private sector, he said.
The Minister also took salute from the 21 march past contingents, distributed awards to Census officers and inaugurated the exhibition-cum-sales organised by self help groups.
The day was also marked by drill presentation by school children and traditional Konyak dances.
Local MLA and Chairman Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Board, Thongwang Konyak and former MLA Konngam also joined the celebrations.
