Faculty and students of ICFAI University Nagaland after the debate competition on March 9.

The ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN), in collaboration with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Dimapur, conducted a series of programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students on March 9 and 10.

An update from the university stated that the first day events were marked with essay writing and debate competitions on the topics ‘Swadeshi: Understanding Gandhi’s vision of self-reliance’ and ‘KVIC: Post liberalisation and globalisation in India.’

It stated that in the essay writing competition, Tsiikane Rollen Duomai of MA English IV, Arenkala Walling of MA English II, and Mary Momin of BCA II won the first, second and third positions respectively.

In the debate competition, Group-II comprising Kihika Chopy of MLI Sc. IV, Jungtisen Aier of MA Economics, Suneplong of MBA II, Avipra of BA IV and Thsilongla Sangtam of MBA II won the first position, while the Group-III comprising members from the B.Com programme namely Amar Kumar Das, Netu Kumari Chauhan, Avhi Debnath, Vikash Prasad and Heena Praveen won the second position.

On the second day, a seminar was conducted with Sani Pongen, DCO of KVIC, as the resource person.

Pongen presented a brief history of KVIC and its functions and spoke on the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) highlighting the eligibility conditions for the beneficiaries, EDP training etc. He informed that the programmes were designed keeping in mind the need for the students to be aware of the several government schemes.

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the essay and debate competitions.
