Dimapur, Dec. 2 (EMN): Nagaland Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on Friday said he has high regard for the Nagas, who resisted and gave a tough fight to the British during the World War II.

He said this during an interaction programme held at the Village Council Hall in Tuophema village.

Cultural activities, dances and songs are in the blood of the Nagas as was observed during the inaugural day of the Hornbill Festival, he said, adding that the cultural troupes presented items that attract people from across the country and abroad.

Though small in area, Nagaland is a very important state for the country, he stated, according to an update from PRO Raj Bhavan.

The governor went on to urge the youth to take up agriculture as their profession and use latest technologies through government’s assistance in order to boost the economy of the state.

While maintaining that farmers should be issued land cards in order to avail advice regarding the type of crops that will grow well their land, he said the government is committed to providing seeds, pesticides or manure for dedicated farmers.

He said the government will also take important factors, like market linkage, transportation, modern facilities, etc., into account. The government will ensure the crops are insured under the PM scheme to get full return of their produce, he added.

Mukhi also expressed confidence that a final agreement to the Naga political issue, ‘one that is fair to most people and meets their expectations and aspirations’, will be reached soon.

Earlier in the programme, Vice Chairman of Tuophema Village Council, Dziesengulie Seyie delivered the welcome address and a cultural show presented by Tuophema Women Cultural group, and Neichiituo Rio and Party.
