Dimapur, May 31 (EMN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Monday took a potshot at the ruling PDA government, stating that it had failed to handle the pandemic effectively and urged to enhance facilities in healthcare centres.

The party alleged that unlike government’s claim of preparedness to tackle the pandemic, ground reality check revealed that there is acute shortage of basic medical facilities in almost all the government hospitals, including the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and District Hospital Dimapur.

It released “basic and immediate requirements for Covid-19 hospital” and other Community Health Centres in all the districts in a detailed report running into seven pages.

The party stated that healthcare centres across the state were face shortage of several facilities ranging from Cardiac Monitor, ICU, Oxygen Concentrator, sanitisers, Oxygen Cylinder, Oxygen Regulator, Digital BP Apparatus, Pulse Oximeter, TrueNat Machine, PPE, masks, etc. that are needed in fighting the pandemic effectively. It also added that some health care facilities face shortage of doctors and nurses.

Stating that all possible steps should have been taken after the first wave, the party urged the government to provide the basic requirements it had highlighted in all the government-run hospitals.

“The party is of the view that lockdown can be enforced if at all required but it should not be for a very long duration,” it stated, adding that the government should “look into the welfare of the frontline workers including the citizens of Nagaland living below poverty line as they are the most effected in terms of economy because of the state-wide lockdown”.
